New Jersey Devils vs Washington Capitals
Saturday, October 17, 2026 — 1:00 PM ET
Moneyline: Devils +102 | Capitals -121
Puck Line: Devils +1.5 (-255) | Capitals -1.5 (+200)
Over/Under: 6.5 goals
Matchup: New Jersey visits Washington in a closely matched Metropolitan Division contest. Both teams have shown the ability to generate offense, but neither has established a decisive early-season advantage. The Devils will look to create chances through Jack Hughes and Nico Hischier, while Washington will try to use home ice and physical pressure to disrupt New Jersey's transition game.
Key Stats: Hischier has three goals, Hughes has six assists, and Jake Allen has three wins for New Jersey. Washington's Boone Jenner has three goals, Dylan Strome has five assists, and Logan Thompson has three wins. The teams' relatively similar records suggest that goaltending and special teams could determine the result.
Trends & Statistical History: Washington is a narrow moneyline favorite, indicating that the market expects a competitive game. The 6.5-goal total reflects the potential for multiple scoring chances. New Jersey's +1.5 puck line offers protection if the Devils keep the game close, while Washington's home advantage provides a modest edge. Confirm current odds and starting goalies before betting.
Carolina Hurricanes vs Winnipeg Jets
Saturday, October 17, 2026 — 3:30 PM ET
Moneyline: Hurricanes -180 | Jets +150
Puck Line: Hurricanes -1.5 (+142) | Jets +1.5 (-170)
Over/Under: 6.5 goals
Matchup: Carolina enters with a strong 6-1-1 start, while Winnipeg has also begun well at 4-1-2. The Hurricanes' aggressive forecheck and quick puck movement can generate sustained offensive pressure. Winnipeg will need disciplined defensive coverage and effective counterattacks to limit Carolina's scoring opportunities.
Key Stats: Sebastian Aho leads Carolina with six goals and seven assists. Winnipeg's Kyle Connor has seven goals, while Mark Scheifele has five assists. Pyotr Kochetkov has four wins for Carolina, compared with three for Winnipeg's Stuart Skinner.
Trends & Statistical History: Carolina's better record supports its status as the favorite, although Winnipeg's home ice makes the matchup competitive. The 6.5-goal total suggests expectations for a moderately high-scoring contest. Carolina's -1.5 puck line offers a larger potential return but requires a win by at least two goals. Winnipeg's +1.5 is the more conservative side. Confirm the latest goalie assignments and sportsbook prices before using these numbers.
Vancouver Canucks vs Tampa Bay Lightning
Saturday, October 17, 2026 — 4:00 PM ET
Moneyline: Canucks +290 | Lightning -375
Puck Line: Canucks +1.5 (approx. -250) | Lightning -1.5 (approx. +200)
Over/Under: 6.5 goals
Matchup: Vancouver faces a difficult road test against Tampa Bay. The Canucks have struggled for consistency, while the Lightning have been more reliable at home. Tampa Bay's offensive talent, led by Nikita Kucherov and Brandon Hagel, gives the hosts several ways to create scoring opportunities. Vancouver needs better defensive coverage and more consistent goaltending to stay competitive.
Key Stats: Paul Cotter has four goals for Vancouver, and Elias Pettersson has seven assists. Hagel also has four goals for Tampa Bay, while Kucherov has seven assists. Andrei Vasilevskiy has three wins for the Lightning, compared with one for Vancouver's Kevin Lankinen.
Trends & Statistical History: Tampa Bay's home performance and stronger early results make it the clear favorite. The -375 moneyline implies that the market expects a high probability of a Lightning win, although the price offers limited return. Vancouver's +1.5 puck line is an alternative if the visitors can keep the score close. The 6.5-goal total leaves room for a high-scoring game if defensive mistakes continue. Treat the odds as approximate and verify them before betting.
Seattle Kraken vs Florida Panthers
Saturday, October 17, 2026 — 6:00 PM ET
PUCK LINE: Kraken +1.5 (approx. -230) | Panthers -1.5 (approx. +185)
OVER / UNDER: 6.5 Goals
MONEYLINE: Kraken +155 | Panthers -190
Matchup: Seattle enters at 5-2-0, while Florida is 3-2-2. The Kraken have the stronger record, but Florida's home-ice advantage and offensive depth make this an intriguing matchup. Seattle will try to maintain its early momentum through disciplined defensive play and efficient transitions. Florida needs to establish pressure in the offensive zone and use its skilled forwards to create traffic around the net. The Panthers' ability to turn possession into high-quality chances will be particularly important against a Seattle team that has started the season well.
Key Stats: Seattle's Frederick Gaudreau leads the team with four goals, while Chandler Stephenson has six assists. Florida's Sam Reinhart also has four goals, and Matthew Tkachuk has seven assists. Joey Daccord has three wins for Seattle, compared with two for Florida's Jacob Markstrom. These individual figures suggest that both clubs have productive scoring options, although their early-season records favor Seattle.
Trends & Statistical History: Seattle's 5-2-0 record is the strongest objective indicator entering this game. Florida's 3-2-2 start includes two overtime or shootout losses, meaning its record understates some of its competitiveness. The estimated -190 moneyline makes Florida the favorite despite Seattle's better record, emphasizing home advantage. The 6.5-goal total suggests the possibility of a moderately high-scoring game. Seattle's +1.5 puck line is the more conservative underdog option, while Florida's moneyline requires less risk than a two-goal victory. Current odds and starting goalies should be checked before betting.
New York Islanders vs Toronto Maple Leafs
Saturday, October 17, 2026 — 7:00 PM ET
PUCK LINE: Islanders +1.5 (approx. -240) | Maple Leafs -1.5 (approx. +195)
OVER / UNDER: 6.5 Goals
MONEYLINE: Islanders +115 | Maple Leafs -135
Matchup: The Islanders arrive with a 3-3-0 record, while Toronto stands at 3-3-1. The teams have similar early-season results, although Toronto has earned an additional standings point. The Maple Leafs will look to use home ice and their offensive talent to generate sustained pressure. New York's best approach is to keep the game structured, protect the middle of the ice, and capitalize on turnovers. Toronto's scoring ability can change the game quickly, but the Islanders have the goaltending to make this a competitive contest.
Key Stats: New York's Bo Horvat has four goals, while defenseman Matthew Schaefer leads the Islanders with six assists. Toronto's Auston Matthews has five goals and seven assists, giving him 12 points. Ilya Sorokin has three wins for New York, while Anthony Stolarz has two for Toronto. Matthews is the standout offensive player in this matchup, and his ability to create chances at even strength and on the power play will be crucial.
Trends & Statistical History: The teams' similar records suggest a relatively close matchup. Toronto's home advantage and Matthews' production support the Maple Leafs as a slight favorite, but the -135 price does not imply overwhelming superiority. The 6.5-goal total leaves room for a high-scoring game if both offenses convert their chances. New York's +1.5 puck line offers some protection against a narrow Toronto victory. The Islanders' ability to limit rebounds and avoid penalties could determine whether they can pull off the upset. No verified recent head-to-head streak is included.
Buffalo Sabres vs Montreal Canadiens
Saturday, October 17, 2026 — 7:00 PM ET
PUCK LINE: Sabres +1.5 (approx. -245) | Canadiens -1.5 (approx. +200)
OVER / UNDER: 6.5 Goals
MONEYLINE: Sabres +120 | Canadiens -142
Matchup: Buffalo visits Montreal with a 3-3-1 record, while the Canadiens are 3-2-1. The teams are closely matched, and Buffalo has played one additional game. Montreal has home ice and will try to dictate the pace through aggressive forechecking and quick puck movement. Buffalo's ability to generate offense from both its forwards and defensemen could make the difference. If the Sabres can avoid turnovers in their own zone and force Montreal to defend for extended stretches, they have a realistic chance of keeping the game close.
Key Stats: Buffalo's Tage Thompson has four goals, while Owen Power has six assists. Montreal's Cole Caufield has three goals, and Nick Suzuki leads the Canadiens with five assists. Ukko-Pekka Luukkonen has two wins for Buffalo, while Jacob Fowler has two for Montreal. Thompson provides Buffalo with a significant goal-scoring threat, while Suzuki's playmaking will be central to Montreal's attack.
Trends & Statistical History: The records suggest a competitive game rather than a major mismatch. Montreal's estimated -142 moneyline reflects its home advantage, while Buffalo's +120 price provides a potentially appealing return for an underdog. The 6.5-goal total suggests expectations for a game with several scoring opportunities. Buffalo's +1.5 puck line may be preferable for anyone expecting a close result, while Montreal's moneyline is the more conservative home-team option. Special teams and goaltending could be decisive. No verified current head-to-head streak is included.
San Jose Sharks vs Detroit Red Wings
Saturday, October 17, 2026 — 7:00 PM ET
PUCK LINE: Sharks +1.5 (approx. -240) | Red Wings -1.5 (approx. +195)
OVER / UNDER: 6.5 Goals
MONEYLINE: Sharks +110 | Red Wings -134
Matchup: San Jose travels to Detroit in a matchup between two teams with very different early-season momentum. The Sharks are 3-3-0, while the Red Wings are 1-3-2. San Jose has been more successful at converting games into wins, while Detroit needs a more consistent defensive performance. The Red Wings will try to take advantage of home ice and create chances through Alex DeBrincat and their supporting forwards. San Jose will look to use Macklin Celebrini's playmaking and capitalize on defensive mistakes.
Key Stats: San Jose's Tyler Toffoli has two goals, while Celebrini leads the Sharks with six assists. Detroit's DeBrincat has four goals and four assists, making him the most productive listed offensive contributor in this matchup. Yaroslav Askarov has two wins for San Jose, compared with one for Detroit's John Gibson. DeBrincat's finishing ability gives Detroit a clear scoring threat despite its weaker overall record.
Trends & Statistical History: San Jose's 3-3-0 record is substantially better than Detroit's 1-3-2 start. However, Detroit's home advantage helps explain its estimated -134 moneyline. The 6.5-goal total suggests the possibility of a moderately high-scoring contest, although both teams' defensive performance could push the result lower. San Jose's +110 moneyline is worth considering based on its better record, while the Sharks' +1.5 puck line offers protection against a narrow loss. Detroit needs a stronger start and more consistent defensive coverage to justify favorite status. Current odds and confirmed starting goalies should be checked before betting.
Ottawa Senators vs Philadelphia Flyers
Saturday, October 17, 2026 — 7:00 PM ET
PUCK LINE: Senators -1.5 (approx. +175) | Flyers +1.5 (approx. -210)
OVER / UNDER: 5.5 Goals
MONEYLINE: Senators -143 | Flyers +120
Matchup: Ottawa travels to Philadelphia with a strong early-season record of 5-2-0, while the Flyers have struggled at 0-5-3. The Senators have been more consistent at generating offense and closing out games. Philadelphia has collected points in overtime or shootout losses but still needs to find a way to secure its first victory. Ottawa will look to pressure Philadelphia's defense and capitalize on turnovers, while the Flyers need a more organized defensive structure and better finishing around the net.
Key Stats: Tim Stützle leads Ottawa with five goals and six assists, giving him 11 points. Linus Ullmark has five wins for the Senators. Philadelphia's Christian Dvorak has two goals, while Travis Konecny has three assists. The difference in individual production and team results favors Ottawa, particularly if Stützle can create opportunities through the middle of the ice.
Trends & Statistical History: Philadelphia's winless start is the strongest negative trend entering the game. Ottawa's -143 moneyline reflects a meaningful advantage, although the price is not as steep as the teams' records might suggest. The 5.5-goal total points toward a lower-scoring expectation, making defensive execution and goaltending important. Ottawa's -1.5 puck line offers a higher payout but requires a two-goal victory. Philadelphia's +1.5 is the safer spread option if the Flyers can keep the contest close. Verify the latest lines and starting goalies before betting.
New York Rangers vs Columbus Blue Jackets
Saturday, October 17, 2026 — 7:00 PM ET
PUCK LINE: Rangers +1.5 (approx. -245) | Blue Jackets -1.5 (approx. +200)
OVER / UNDER: 6.5 Goals
MONEYLINE: Rangers +110 | Blue Jackets -135
Matchup: New York visits Columbus with a 6-2-0 record in the available listing, while the Blue Jackets stand at 2-3-0. The Rangers have enjoyed the stronger start, although their road form has been less impressive than their overall record. Columbus will try to use home ice to generate pressure and disrupt New York's offensive rhythm. The Rangers have the more established scoring core, while the Blue Jackets need to make the most of transition chances and avoid giving New York extra opportunities.
Key Stats: Alexis Lafrenière leads New York with seven goals, and Adam Fox has eight assists. Columbus' Kent Johnson has three goals, while Charlie Coyle has five assists. Igor Shesterkin has three wins for the Rangers, compared with one for Columbus goaltender Jet Greaves. Lafrenière's scoring and Fox's playmaking give New York two important offensive advantages.
Trends & Statistical History: New York's stronger record favors the visitors, but the Rangers' estimated +110 moneyline reflects concerns about their road performance. Columbus is listed around -135, suggesting a modest home-team advantage rather than a decisive mismatch. The 6.5-goal total leaves room for an open contest, especially if both teams create chances off turnovers. New York's +1.5 puck line offers protection against a narrow loss, while Columbus needs a more complete defensive performance to justify its favorite status. Current sportsbook odds and starting goalies should be verified.
Dallas Stars vs Chicago Blackhawks
Saturday, October 17, 2026 — 7:00 PM ET
PUCK LINE: Stars -1.5 (approx. +150) | Blackhawks +1.5 (approx. -180)
OVER / UNDER: 5.5 Goals
MONEYLINE: Stars -195 | Blackhawks +160
Matchup: Dallas heads to Chicago in a Central Division matchup between two teams that have struggled to find consistency. The Stars are listed at 2-3-1, while Chicago is 2-5-0. Dallas has a deeper collection of established offensive talent, but Chicago's home performances have been more encouraging than its overall record. The Blackhawks will try to use their speed and younger forwards to create chances, while Dallas needs to improve its finishing and avoid allowing Chicago to generate momentum.
Key Stats: Tyler Seguin has two goals for Dallas, and Mikko Rantanen has four assists. Chicago's Roman Kantserov has three goals, while Anton Frondell has five assists. Jake Oettinger has two wins for the Stars, and Spencer Knight has two for Chicago. The even goaltending win totals make this more competitive than the teams' reputations alone might suggest.
Trends & Statistical History: Dallas is the moneyline favorite at approximately -195, but Chicago's home record gives the underdog some appeal. The 5.5-goal total is relatively conservative and suggests expectations for a tighter game. Dallas needs its experienced forwards to produce more consistently, while Chicago must limit defensive breakdowns. The Stars' -1.5 puck line offers a better payout but requires a two-goal win; Chicago's +1.5 is the more cautious option. Confirm current odds and goaltender assignments before making a wager.
St. Louis Blues vs Nashville Predators
Saturday, October 17, 2026 — 8:00 PM ET
PUCK LINE: Blues +1.5 (approx. -210) | Predators -1.5 (approx. +175)
OVER / UNDER: 5.5 Goals
MONEYLINE: Blues -113 | Predators -106
Matchup: St. Louis travels to Nashville in one of the most evenly priced matchups of the evening. The Blues are listed at 3-2-1, while the Predators are 2-2-2. St. Louis has a slight advantage in regulation wins, but Nashville's overtime results have helped it remain competitive. The Blues will look to create offense through their forwards and defensemen, while the Predators will try to use home ice and quick passing to generate dangerous chances.
Key Stats: Mason McTavish has four goals for St. Louis, while Connor McMichael has four assists. Nashville's Steven Stamkos has three goals, and Filip Forsberg has five assists. Joel Hofer and Juuse Saros each have two wins in the available listing. The listed figures suggest a matchup where playmaking and finishing could matter more than a major difference in goaltending results.
Trends & Statistical History: The near-even moneyline indicates that the market sees little separation between these clubs. St. Louis at -113 has a very small pricing advantage, while Nashville at -106 offers a comparable return with home ice. The 5.5-goal total suggests a lower-scoring expectation than in some other games on the slate. The Blues' +1.5 puck line provides protection against a narrow loss, while Nashville's home advantage could be decisive late. A verified recent head-to-head streak is not included, and the odds should be checked against a current sportsbook.
Boston Bruins vs Los Angeles Kings
Saturday, October 17, 2026 — 9:00 PM ET
PUCK LINE: Bruins +1.5 (approx. -240) | Kings -1.5 (approx. +195)
OVER / UNDER: 5.5 Goals
MONEYLINE: Bruins +110 | Kings -134
Matchup: Boston travels to Los Angeles in a matchup where the early-season statistics favor the visitors despite the listed home-team betting advantage. Boston has a 5-2-0 record and has averaged approximately 3.7 goals per game in the available figures. Los Angeles is listed at 0-3-2, with an average of approximately 2.2 goals per game. The Bruins' ability to create offense through multiple lines gives them a clear statistical advantage. Los Angeles needs better defensive coverage and more consistent finishing to turn its early performances into victories.
Key Stats: Fraser Minten leads Boston with four goals, while David Pastrnak has six assists. Los Angeles' Artemi Panarin has three goals, and Brandt Clarke has contributed offensively from defense. Boston's stronger scoring average and better record are encouraging indicators, although the confirmed starting goalies and complete player statistics should be checked before puck drop.
Trends & Statistical History: The Kings' winless start is the most significant trend entering the game. Boston's +110 moneyline is noteworthy given its stronger record and higher listed scoring average, while Los Angeles at -134 appears to rely heavily on home advantage. The 5.5-goal total suggests a relatively conservative scoring expectation. Boston's +1.5 puck line offers protection against a narrow defeat, while the moneyline provides a higher-risk underdog option. The Kings need to improve defensively to justify favorite status. Verify current lines and starting goalies before betting.
Edmonton Oilers vs Utah Mammoth
Saturday, October 17, 2026 — 10:00 PM ET
PUCK LINE: Oilers +1.5 (approx. -240) | Mammoth -1.5 (approx. +200)
OVER / UNDER: 6.5 Goals
MONEYLINE: Oilers +115 | Mammoth -140
Matchup: Edmonton visits Utah in a Western Conference matchup featuring two strong early-season teams. The Oilers are listed at 5-1-1, while Utah has an even better 6-2-0 record. Edmonton averages approximately 4.4 goals per game, compared with Utah's 3.9. Both teams have demonstrated offensive potential, making this one of the more attractive matchups for fans expecting scoring chances. Utah's home advantage is balanced by Edmonton's impressive road results, creating a competitive contest despite the Mammoth being favored.
Key Stats: Connor McDavid and Leon Draisaitl remain Edmonton's primary offensive threats, providing elite playmaking and finishing. Utah's attack has also been productive during its strong start. The available information does not establish complete, verified individual scoring totals or the confirmed starting goalies for this particular game, so those figures should be checked closer to faceoff rather than assumed.
Trends & Statistical History: Edmonton's listed 4-0-0 road record is an important counterpoint to Utah's 2-0-0 home record. The Mammoth are priced around -140, while Edmonton is available at +115, offering a higher potential return on the visitors. The 6.5-goal total is consistent with the teams' combined scoring production. The over is worth monitoring if both offenses maintain their early-season efficiency, although strong goaltending could change the outlook. Utah has the better overall record, but Edmonton's road form makes it a credible underdog. Confirm the current betting market before wagering.
Pittsburgh Penguins vs Vegas Golden Knights
Saturday, October 17, 2026 — 10:00 PM ET
PUCK LINE: Penguins +1.5 (approx. -270) | Golden Knights -1.5 (approx. +220)
OVER / UNDER: 6.5 Goals
MONEYLINE: Penguins +195 | Golden Knights -240
Matchup: Pittsburgh travels to Vegas for the final game in this set of previews. The Penguins are listed at 3-3-1, while the Golden Knights have an impressive 7-2-0 record. Vegas has been particularly strong at home, with a listed 4-1-0 record, while Pittsburgh has struggled to maintain the same consistency on the road. The Golden Knights' ability to generate sustained offensive-zone pressure and use their depth across multiple lines gives them an advantage. Pittsburgh needs a disciplined defensive performance and efficient counterattacks to stay competitive.
Key Stats: Sidney Crosby remains a central figure in Pittsburgh's offense, while Vegas relies on its balanced forward group and experienced special-teams personnel. The available information does not provide a complete verified set of current individual scoring totals or confirmed starting goalies for this game. Those details should be checked before making a betting decision.
Trends & Statistical History: Vegas' 7-2-0 overall record and 4-1-0 home mark support its position as the favorite. The estimated -240 moneyline reflects a substantial advantage, although it requires a larger stake to generate a modest return. Pittsburgh's +195 price offers a higher payout if the Penguins can produce an upset. The 6.5-goal total suggests a potentially open game, particularly if Pittsburgh falls behind and must take additional offensive risks. Vegas' -1.5 puck line offers a higher return but requires a victory by at least two goals. Current odds, starting goalies, and confirmed team records should be verified before betting.

Betting the NHL Point Spread
Betting “against the spread” is the most popular way to wager on NHL basketball. NHL games are rarely perfect match-ups, and the spread is the sportsbook's way of leveling the playing field. In order to win a point spread bet or “cover the spread,” the favored team not only has to win the game – they must do so by a specified number of points (the spread). The spread encourages equal betting on both teams, as it essentially “gives” points to the underdog. You most often find spreads with half-points attached, which is known as a “hook.” The hook avoids the possibility of a push (or tie).Betting the NHL Moneyline
While less popular than betting the spread, the NHL moneyline is the easiest basketball bet to understand. When betting the moneyline, you are simply picking the team that will win the game. NHL Moneyline bets are easy to understand, but they offer a poor return on investment when betting on the favorite.Betting NHL Totals (Over/Under)
When betting the “total” on NHL games, you are no longer concerned with which team will win the game. Instead, your focus is strictly on how many points will be scored overall. You may also hear this type of bet referred to as “over-under betting.”
