  Alex Smart
7:00 PM   Kansas State vs BYU
NCAAB   03/10
  Pick: BYU -10.5
The Kansas State Wildcats, entering this Big 12 Tournament battle against the BYU Cougars on neutral ground in Kansas City, reveal clear defensive shortcomings, giving up 78.6 points per game across the season, and their downward spiral lately, with losses in five of their final six games, leaves them exposed to sharp-shooting units like BYU's, which racks up 82.4 points while hitting 47 percent from the floor, and they command the boards at 38.2 rebounds per tilt versus Kansas State's 34.1, paving the way for second-chance dominance from the Cougars. BYU, set as commanding 10.5-point favorites, excels in covering spreads during seven of their recent 10 neutral-site appearances, and they maintain a robust 13-5 straight-up record in March over the last few campaigns, in contrast to Kansas State's dismal 4-9 mark against the spread as underdogs this year, underscoring their difficulties under duress, while the Cougars' prowess in steals at 12.3 per game targets the Wildcats' sloppy 11.8 turnovers, fueling easy buckets in open court. Betting trends strongly back BYU within conference play, having covered in six of their prior eight Big 12 scraps, and they've thrived against weaker squads like Kansas State, going 8-2 straight up in such spots over the past two seasons, whereas the Wildcats have stumbled at 3-7 against the spread on the road, suggesting the gap could widen in this venue. Crucial angles feature BYU's drive for redemption after a slim regular-season defeat, enhanced by their crisp 78 percent free-throw mark against Kansas State's 71 percent, which seals outcomes in crunch time, and with the Cougars' superior bench strength and postseason poise, backing them to cover the spread emerges as a confident choice in a matchup tilted heavily in their favor.

12:30 PM   Baylor vs Arizona State
NCAAB   03/10
  Pick: Baylor -4
For my best free pick on board for Tuesday in college basketball conference tournament action I am looking at the Baylor Bears and the Arizona State Sun Devils. Both these teams come in hot wise Baylor covering 4 straight games and Arizona State getting the cover in 5 of the last 7. Baylor’s near .500 record really will fool a lot of players they are much better than their record indicates and I expect them to make a run in this tournament starting with this game early on Tuesday.

12:30 PM   Baylor vs Arizona State
NCAAB   03/10
  Pick: Baylor -5
Baylor enters this matchup after alternating wins and losses over its last five games, but the Bears are coming off an impressive blowout victory over Utah. Baylor has been shooting 48% from the field and has scored 80 or more points in three of its last four games, showing strong offensive production.
Arizona State has won two of its last three contests, but the Sun Devils struggled mightily in the second half of their most recent game. ASU is shooting 45% from the field and has allowed 86 or more points in two of its last four outings.
While Baylor finished just 6–12 in Big 12 play, the Bears did defeat Arizona State by five points earlier, and they appear to have the edge again in this matchup. I expect Baylor to cover the number here.

12:30 PM   Baylor vs Arizona State
NCAAB   03/10
  Pick: Baylor -4
Arizona State is one seed higher than Baylor as the two teams meet in this early start opening round Big 12 Conference Tournament game.

Despite the seeding, Baylor is the better team. The oddsmaker knows it and so does the marketplace with the Bears drawing the money.

I find the point spread low enough to back the Bears. Baylor is NCAA Tournament-tested and is off a confidence-boosting, 101-75, home win against Utah this past Saturday.

Arizona State is going through an unsettling time. The Sun Devils were hammered by Iowa State, 86-65, on the road this past Saturday. Several national outlets have reported that ASU coach Bobby Hurley will not be back for next season. That has to be a major distraction.

Baylor defeated Arizona State 73-68 at home on Feb. 21 in the only meeting between the teams this season.

Both teams give up an average of 77 points a game. But the Bears score nearly six more points per game than the Sun Devils and rank 39th in field goal percentage. ASU is 218th in field goal percentage.

Methods Of Wagering With NCAAB Picks

Betting the NCAAB Point Spread

Betting “against the spread” is the most popular way to wager on college basketball. NCAAB games are rarely perfect match-ups, and the spread is the sportsbook's way of leveling the playing field. In order to win a point spread bet or “cover the spread,” the favored team not only has to win the game – they must do so by a specified number of points (the spread). The spread encourages equal betting on both teams, as it essentially “gives” points to the underdog. You most often find spreads with half-points attached, which is known as a “hook.” The hook avoids the possibility of a push (or tie).
      Example: Stanford +5.5, Georgia -5.5
The team with the negative number next to its name is the favorite; in this case, it is Georgia (-5.5). If you bet on the Bulldogs against the spread, they have to win the game by at least six points for you to win your bet. Georgia is said to be “laying” 5.5 points in these circumstances. Another way to look at it is subtracting 5.5 points from the Bulldogs final score at the end of the game. If the Bulldogs still have more points after subtracting 5.5, then they cover the spread. In order to cover the spread, the favored team not only needs to win the game – they must do so by a specified number of points.
The Stanford Cardinals have a positive number next to their team name, indicating they are the underdog. They do not have to win the game outright for you to win your bet. So long as they don’t lose by more than five points, you’ll come out a winner. Obviously, you would also win your bet if the Stanford Cardinals won the game outright.

Betting the NCAAB Moneyline

While less popular than betting the spread, the NCAAB moneyline is the easiest basketball bet to understand. When betting the moneyline, you are simply picking the team that will win the game. NCAAB Moneyline bets are easy to understand, but they offer a poor return on investment when betting on the favorite.
      Example: Stanford +180, Georgia -250
The NCAAB odds attached dictate your potential payout and the sportsbook’s implied probability. Georgia remains the favorite on the moneyline, as indicated by the negative number (-250) next to the team name. But, in this case, that number means something different: a -250 moneyline tells bettors that they need to wager $250 on Georgia in order to win $100. The positive number next to the Stanford Cardinals (+180) gives us similar information, with one key difference. It tells bettors how much they will win on a $100 bet, in this case $180.

Betting NCAAB Totals (Over/Under)

When betting the “total” on college basketball games, you are no longer concerned with which team will win the game. Instead, your focus is strictly on how many points will be scored overall. You may also hear this type of bet referred to as “over-under betting.”
Example: Stanford/Georgia Over 119.5(-115) Under 119.5 (-110) Sticking with our Stanford/Georgia example, the sportsbook has set the total at 119.5 points. Again, the half-point (hook) is present to prevent a push. You have two options when betting totals: over (more than 119.5 points will be scored between both teams) or under (less than 119.5 points will be scored overall).
When betting on the “total,” The moneyline shown in parentheses next to your choice determines the payout. This is calculated just like the NCAAB Moneylines above. Your focus on a NCAAB Totals Wager is strictly on how many points will be scored overall by both college basketball teams combined.
